Jeep Gladiator History

leave a comment

Where does the Jeep Gladiator fit into the great history of the Jeep line of vehicles. Jeep from its lowly beginnings has risen to the level of a status vehicle for many in the market today.
The Jeep vehicle name started out in the bare bones military unit. Simply designed to meet the rigors of being in the field.

The original JEEP as it was known back in February of 1941 was so named because the vehicle actually did not have a name. In a test drive of the Willys-Overland scout car took a demonstration ride up the Capital steps. When the reporter asked the driver Irving “Red” Haussman the name of the vehicle he said “It’s a jeep”. The name was then published across the nation in the review article and a new automotive brand was borne.

Willys-Overland inc was awarded the name as it owned the manufacture rights of the first military vehicles. The Jeep went on to nobally serve in World War II. When the soldiers arrived back from the fronts they wanted the Jeeps they had driven during the war.

Willys-Overland was more than willing to produce this grand little car for the common market. The Jeep CJ-2 was the first commercially available vehicle and stayed in basic production through the Jeep CJ-7.
The Jeep CJ-7 was the last military variant of the great Jeep nomenclature. The final Jeep CJ-7 rolled off the production line in the United States in 1987. It was subplanted with the Jeep brand Wrangler or YJ. The YJ for many was designated as the Yuppie Jeep as it had a lower running height and more supple suspension. This Jeep remained in production for 10 years.

In 1997 the YJ was replaced by the current TJ production unit. This unit along with many small tweaks went back to the original Jeeps round headlights. In 2007 the Jeep YJ is slated to be replaced by the Jeep JK model vehicle.

The JK model of vehicles will include three separate variants. The first Jeep variant will be a short wheelbase two door model that will be the direct replacement to the Jeep YJ and hold true to the original form of this model line.

The second model will be a four door variant with a slightly increased wheelbase for those wanting more functionality out of the Jeep. This vehicle should also be better equipped for the less outdoor slanted owner.
The final version will be a pick-up variant Nicknamed the Gladiator. The Jeep Gladiator will feature a slightly extended cab. This will not feature a jump-seat for the kids but allow for storage of small items such as laptops, book-bags, overnight bags, and the like.

The bed of this truck will be 7 foot and perfectly square. This vehicle will be rugged and ready for the trails or a quick camping trip with the buds.

The Jeep has come a long way in the last 60 plus years. This great brand is planning on moving into the future with more memorable vehicles at its back.

Charles love is Jeeps and everything Jeep. As soon as he can get his hands on http://www. jeepgladiator. net he will buy one.

Jeep Wrangler Remains a Big Hit for Chrysler

leave a comment

The apparent shift of the auto market to crossovers and small cars did not deprive Jeep’s hardcore off-roader to continually enjoy its hot-selling status. The Jeep Wrangler is still flocked by aficionados who wanted nothing less than superb off-road performance.

With the shift of auto trend, some enthusiasts expect that the Chrysler Group’s aces would be limited to on-roaders like the Jeep Compass. However, the smooth-riding on-roaders are outshined by the new hit from Jeep.

The new four-door 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, which has debuted at the New York Auto Show (NYIAS) in the previous year, is a serious, no-compromise piece of off-road machinery that can run errands as well. But it is not really designed for that.

The Jeep Wrangler is engineered to compete with larger off-road vehicles like the Toyota FJ Cruiser and the Hummer H3. The mini SUV has the same engine and transmission choices given to the short-wheelbase JK. The engine is also complemented by a Jeep cold air intake to produce utmost performance. However, the Unlimited variant offers more options and equipment than any Wrangler variants.

Features of the SUV include standard electronic stability program and optional seat-mounted side airbags, navigation system, remote keyless entry, and the Sirius satellite radio.

Crossovers offer a smooth carefree ride, like cars. The Wrangler does not. Crossovers and cars are quiet. But the Wrangler is not. However, the Wrangler has features that crossovers are lacking. They include rollover cages, removable doors and windshields that can be folded and strapped to the hood. And these features make Wrangler standout from the rest of the vehicles in the market.

Consumer Reports, after testing the Wrangler Unlimited, gave it a score of 17 out of a possible 100 and this is the lowest score for any current model. The magazine also noted the vehicles’ “dismal fuel economy. ” It also performed well in the standardized rock-climbing test. “Off-road capability remains extremely impressive,” said the magazine in its April issue.

The appeal of the Jeep Wrangler could be ascertained by the fact that while the sales of other SUVs plummet, Wranglers are rushing off dealers lots. The Wrangler Unlimited’s days-to-turn is 20 while the average vehicle overall is in excess of 60. The data was divulged by the Power Information Network.

For Chrysler Group’s brands that include Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep, the success of the Jeep Wrangler is the most remarkable. According to the automotive Web site Edmunds. com, the average days-to-turn for Chrysler Group vehicles is 106 days.

How attractive is the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited? Well, the Toyota FJ Cruiser, another serious off-roader, sells at half the volume of the Wrangler. In February, Jeep sold 9,240 Wranglers of both the two- and four-door types in February. The figures have increased by 63 percent over the same period last year.

Pricing also shows the strength of the four-door Wrangler. Six months after its introduction, the average price paid for a Wrangler Unlimited has increased, according to the Power Information Network. “It’s very rare that the price of a new model goes up,” said Tom Libby, an analyst with Power Information Network. “I think it shows the strength of the Wrangler name,” added Libby.

Jeep Patriot May Become Chrysler’s Hero

leave a comment

After a disappointing year in 2006, Chrysler is looking for its new auto models to bring them back to profitability. One of the newest releases for the automotive group is the Jeep Patriot. The compact SUV is released shortly after the launch of the bigger Compass.

Although the Patriot is significantly smaller than the Compass and other Jeep vehicles, it is still recognizable as a Jeep. This is because of the imposing Jeep trademark grille. While smaller than the Compass, the Patriot is equipped with the same engine as the Compass. Aside from the similarity in the powerplant under the hood of the two Jeeps, they also share the same drivetrain system, body platform and suspension configurations.

The Patriot is being marketed by the Chrysler Group as a vehicle with an SUV packaging and an interior flexibility while having the performance, handling, and fuel economy of a hatchback. Priced lower than the Compass, the Patriot is a good choice for auto buyers looking for crossover SUVs.

The Patriot is offered with two engine choices. The first one is a 2. 4-liter gasoline engine. This powerplant can produce as much as 168 horsepower – enough to give the compact SUV its requirement for power. The second engine offered with the Patriot is a 2. 0-liter turbocharged diesel engine. According to Jeep, this diesel engine can produce as much as 138 horsepower.

These engines will be complemented by Jeep’s all-wheel drive system. The said system automatically switches between two and four wheel drive to suit the terrain. If traction is needed on all wheels, the system will deliver power to all the wheels. When two wheels can provide traction for the vehicle, it automatically switches on the four-wheel drive system.

According to Steve Gray, the marketing director for the Chrysler Group in the UK, the Patriot is an important addition to their lineup. “The Patriot is an important entry point model for us,” says Gray. “Key players in the compact SUV segment have all recently introduced new models, the Honda CR-V, the Land Rover Freelander and the Toyota RAV4; they are all bigger and more expensive than the models they replace. ”

“Their move up in size and price gives us an opportunity in the car derived SUV sector. The most obvious competitors now are the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Chevrolet Captiva and Suzuki Grand Vitara but SUV and hatchback crossover models such as the Volkswagen Golf Plus and Nissan Qashqai are also competitors,” he added.

According to Chrysler Group, the Patriot has between 1. 5 to 19. 4 percent better value than its competitors if disparity in specification is adjusted.

Gray sings the Patriot praises by saying: “The Patriot is modern, but still styled as a traditional Jeep and we have not had this price range before in the Jeep brand. It is lighter and more fuel efficient. Modern electronics allow the vehicle to be driven in front wheel drive or four wheel drive automatically. The Patriot brings nippiness, agility and yet it is fuel efficient. ”

“Customers for the Patriot will be classic Jeep buyers but a greater number, and our primary targets, are young families and second car users,” added Gray.

The Patriot’s exterior look is also a strong selling point for it. Its rugged looks will be hard not to flaunt that owners might not be using their Jeep Bestop car cover frequently.

Make Sure your Grille and Head Lights are in Place With Jeep Header Panel

leave a comment

A Jeep was designed to endure rough outdoor activities. In fact, it was initially produce to serve as a universal vehicle way back before World War II. Even before, it was expected that the Jeep will encounter mud, rocks and other harsh elements which may harm the vehicle. Even if Jeep vehicles are made to withstand these elements, at some point they will cause some damage to the vehicle. One of the most vulnerable component would be the the front part of the Jeep, since it will get the initial encounter. This may cause some internal problem because the main components of a car like the engine, are mostly located in front. A Jeep’s body is especially made to bear some external beatings it may encounter during rough drives outdoors. That is why aside from the tough body, Jeep has come up with numerous car parts that will enhance the performance of a car.

A good example is the Jeep header panel. This particular component is actually less exposed and noticed because most of the time it is concealed by the other elements installed to it. The Jeep header panel is the front bodywork which holds the grille, the headlights and the corner lights. Its functionality add some style as well. In fact, whenever the front components are modified, the header panel would likely to be replaced to suit transformation.

As mentioned before, the Jeep header panel holds some of the important front elements of a car, like the grille, which allows air to flow over the radiator and cool the engine compartment. The header panel also hold parts of automotive lighting system. The headlights which are very important especially when driving in a dark road. They help drivers see what is ahead of them to avoid accidents. Headlights would be especially helpful for Jeep drivers, since they are more inclined to travel on various terrains. Without the Jeep header panel, it is likely that all these elements to fall off even without any collisions.
