Volkswagen Cars Named Finalists for Ad Awards

The New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) is just around the corner and so is the IAG Research Awards. The awarding body gives distinction to automobile manufacturers that have created an ad campaign that effectively reaches their target audience.

The winners in the five categories will be announced at the opening press breakfast at the Javits Center in New York City where the country’s largest motor show will be held. The finalists for the five categories have already been announced and two Volkswagen ad campaigns for their cars were announced as finalists for the award.

The Volkswagen Jetta’s “Dance” ad campaign and the Volkswagen Passat’s “Safe Happens” ad are finalists for the “Most Effective Overall Ad” category. Aside from that, the Passat wagon is also a finalist for the “Most Effective Established Nameplate Launch Campaign” category. The finalists were chosen on the basis of their effectiveness in reaching their target viewers.

Creativity and strategic media placement are some of the criterion set by IAG Research in choosing the finalists and, finally, the winners in the five categories came into being. The determination of the winner is also based on the response of more than 1. 5 million viewers who has been tapped by IAG Research to respond to a survey that they conducted.

Kurt Schneider, the General Manager of Creative Content for Volkswagen of America Inc. , has this to say about their ad campaigns’ being finalists for the awards: “We are excited about being recognized by IAG. This research confirms the true effectiveness of these messages in connecting with consumers and increasing consideration for the brand. ”

The VW Jetta, the center of the “Dance” ad campaign, is the top selling vehicle for Volkswagen in the U. S. market. Its strong selling point is the number of comfort and convenience features it has. The Jetta is equipped with adaptive cruise control as well as traction control allowing drivers to have complete control of the vehicle. It has a CD player and air conditioning for the comfort of the vehicle’s occupants.

As far as the ride is concerned, the Jetta is one of the best in its class, thanks to its four-wheel independent suspension system. Volkswagen gives the Jetta’s MSRP starting at $16,490 for the base model.

The VW Passat sedan on the other hand focuses on it safety features although it also offers good comfort and convenience features like the Jetta. Its safety features includes a full lineup of six airbags which covers the entire interior area of the vehicle. This vehicle can adequately protect its occupants in instances where highly efficient EBC greenstuff brake pads are not enough to avoid accidents.

Aside from being comfortable and safe, the VW Passat also offers good fuel efficiency, thanks to its engine. Its 2. 0T model is powered by a 2. 0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder featuring direct-injection delivery technology.

H4 in 2010, Hummer Stars in New Video Game

Martin Walsh, Hummer’s General Manager, announced, after the Earth Day, the now official Hummer 4 to be introduced in 2010. According to him, it is a smaller, kinder and a more tamed Hummer.

Walsh said their growth will be downwards, but just in terms of size. And this begins with the release of the H4. He also implied there might be a smaller model than the H4 if needed.

The H4 comes below the H3 in an ascending order in terms of size. It is meant as a compact SUV to go against competitors like the Nissan Murano. As such, Walsh said the H4 would be built on an upcoming compact GM platform. He did not say, however, which upcoming compact GM platform it is. As long as Hummer gets the same gruff styling cues and useful ability in the dirty stuff, that should not be a problem. Hummer insiders are apparently stressing that General Motors Company might “go soft and gentle” with the H4, but Walsh readily admits they have to offer legitimate off-road capability despite its softness image.

Last year Hummer sold 56,000 H3’s and 14,000 H2’s. Forecasters say the H4 could bump those numbers up by an additional 40,000 units. All Hummer cars have durable looking truck push bars, but each indicating the gentleness of the car it carries.

In every single vehicle application, one can view in the pipeline the bio-fuel power trains, an H3 SUT, and, news in Australia reports that a hybrid could even be in the works, even though it was ruled out late last year.

Car Choice Reflects Presidential Vote

As we await the results of the biggest US Presidential Election we have ever seen, I have found an interesting article on how car choice reflects how Americans vote. Kelley Blue Book Market Research surveyed almost 12,000 US car owners and how they planned to vote in the election. They found that owners of larger trucks and traditional luxury cars are more likely to vote for John McCain, while owners of hybrids and station wagons are more likely to vote for Barack Obama.

Backers of Arizona senator McCain typically own American brands – GMC (61%), Chevrolet (60%), Buick and Dodge (58%). McCain voters are also more likely to drive luxury brands like Lexus and BMW. Barack Obama followers prefer imported vehicles, with the most popular being the Mini with 70%, Subaru (61%) and Saab (59%). McCain supporters are most likely to drive full size trucks and SUVs, while Obama voters drive station wagons, hatchbacks and hybrids. Rick Wainschel from Kelley Blue Book said “Car ownership says a lot about a person, and can even be an indicator who they are likely to vote for”. I do agree with this to an extent.

While all this data may seem like a sweeping generalisation, some of it does make sense. Sales of domestic and large trucks (McCain) are higher in traditionally Republican ‘red’ states whilst import and hybrid owners are predominantly located in Democratic ‘blue’ states. Wired Blog claims all American brands like GMC and Chevrolet, as favoured by McCain followers, represent a blue collar ethic and fit with McCain’s image as a war hero with years of experience. Throughout the campaign, Obama has stressed the importance of renewable energy, so it’s not surprising that eco-conscious hybrid car owners would vote for him. So while some of it makes sense, I’m sure there are a lot of exceptions to the rule. I imagine a lot of American car choices reflect personal budgets and need for space rather than their voting preference.
